Product Description

Using Hands-On Practice exercises and Website Case Studies to motivate readers, Web Development and Design Foundations with HTML5 includes all the necessary lessons to guide students in developing highly effective websites.

This textbook has an innovative approach that prepares students to design web pages that work today, in addition to being ready to take advantage of the new HTML5 coding techniques of the future. XHTML syntax is introduced, but the focus is on HTML5 syntax. New HTML5 elements are presented, with an emphasis on coding web pages that work in both current and future browsers.

A well-rounded balance of hard skills (HTML5, XHTML, CSS, and an introduction to JavaScript) and soft skills (web design, e-commerce overview, website promotion strategies) presents everything beginning web developers need to know to build and promote successful websites. Topics include:

  • Internet concepts
  • Creating web pages with HTML5
  • Configuring text, color, and page layout with CSS
  • HTML5 Video and Audio
  • HTML5 Form Controls
  • New CSS3 properties
  • Web design best practices
  • CSS media queries
  • Designing web pages for mobile devices
  • Web accessibility standards
  • The web development process
  • Choosing a domain name
  • Selecting a web host
  • Website promotion and search engine optimization
  • E-commerce Overview

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This is an exciting time to be in the field of web development! My intent for this new 6th edition of Web Development and Design Foundations with HTML5 is to not only prepare students to design web pages that work in today's popular browsers but also prepare them to take advantage of new HTML5 coding techniques in the future. To meet this challenging goal, the book introduces both XHTML syntax and HTML5 syntax, presents coding web pages in HTML5 with backwards-compatible techniques that work in current browsers, and also provides practice with HTML5's new features that will only work in the latest versions of browsers.

The approach of the book reflects my personal philosophy of teaching web development and emphasizes hands-on practice exercises. Case studies are included throughout the book to provide students an opportunity to apply their new skills. The textbook companion website at webdevfoundations.net has a page for each chapter with hyperlinks for websites listed in the book, information on emerging trends, additional examples, corrections, and review games. Student files are available at cssupport.pearsoncmg.com/book.php?author_id=47 . Instructor materials are available from the publisher's website.

2Terrible value, book is made to disintegrate in your hands
By Amazon Customer
$100+ book printed with the quality that is barely better than a comic book. Paper is thin and easy to tear on a book that is large very large. I would have preferred for this amount that the book be hard back and printed on good quality paper. Just another academic money machine because I had to buy this book for my kid's class. This book is a scam.

5Great Teaching Book for HTML5
By KD Bee
Very solid basics of HTML5, and makes steady mention of W3C standards. Full of helpful links on browser compatibility for individual new(er) features of HTML5. Includes CSS as the basis for Web page appearance, and has some introductory form and script coverage toward the end of the book, with hints toward further study. Solid book for the beginning web developer, or anyone who wants to better understand how Web sites are made.
