This is an exciting time to be in the field of web development! The new 7th edition of Web Development and Design Foundations with HTML5  presents coding web pages in HTML5 and CSS3 with backwards-compatible techniques for older browsers, and also provides practice with new features of HTML5 & CSS3 that are supported by the most current versions of browsers.
Updates for the 7th edition include:
  • Expanded coverage of new HTML5 elements and attributes
  • Expanded coverage of designing for the mobile web with new sections on
    responsive web design,
    mobile web design best practices,
    viewport meta tag,
    CSS media queries,
    flexible images,
    and testing mobile display
  • Expanded coverage of CSS3 properties, including CSS3 flexible box layout
  • New sections providing an introduction to jQuery
  • Updated code samples, case studies, and web resources
The approach of the book reflects my personal philosophy of teaching web development and emphasizes hands-on practice exercises. Case studies are included throughout the book to provide students an opportunity to apply their new skills. The textbook companion website at webdevfoundations.net has a page for each chapter with hyperlinks for websites listed in the book, information on emerging trends, additional examples, corrections, and review games. Instructor materials are available from the publisher's website.

By R.M. Penn
Much of what was in the book sss already outdated. It literally said "outdated" in the textbook. And then there was the joy of finding out the hard way when my projects weren't going well that several important lines of code wouldn't work due to tech upgrades since the publishing date. Now I know that technology is improving g at a faster rate than a lot of textbooks, but when you have literally full pages of codes that say"outdated", I get a little snappy about it--why put that in there then? Leave it out instead of showing us the wrong way and then wait until the next leg to tell us "just kidding--hat will never work". Often the step by step directions left out key points. It's too bad too because the layout of the chapters was good and the projects that are worked on with the completion of each chapter and that build on the previous work is a great learning model. It's just unfortunate that the book can't possibly stay current with the technology. If they had a live version of it that could be updated when required, that would be fabulous.
