Product Description

This is the first book of the Digital Photography 101 Series by Al Judge. Book 2 will cover The Art of Photography and Book 3 will address Photo Editing. Are you tired of learning photography by trial and error? If you understand how a camera works, everything else about photography will make more sense. What if you understood why certain Aperture and Shutter settings work so well and had a mental image of how these settings affect the light entering the camera? With this understanding, every image that you capture would teach you something of real significance – not just give you a vague idea of what works and what doesn’t. With very little time and effort you can be well on your way to taking better pictures consistently. In just a few hours of your time, you can learn what Digital Photography is all about and why you might want to go beyond point-and-shoot cameras and “Pray & Spray” techniques. Your time behind the camera can quickly become a source of great joy and gratification. Do you find the whole topic of digital cameras a little overwhelming? Do you sometimes feel that you don’t know enough to even ask the right questions? Digital Photography 101: Book 1 Mastering Digital Cameras: An Illustrated Guidebook for Absolute Beginners; will painlessly provide help and insight with all these topics and more in just a few hours of your time. Digital Cameras don’t have to be intimidating. The underlying principles are surprisingly simple but rarely presented in layman’s terms. Like any other area of specialization, photography has its own language. Fortunately, you only need to understand a few of terms and concepts to get started. This guide to PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS builds a solid foundation of photographic knowledge with easy-to-follow discussions of everything that you need to know in order to get started with confidence. Every photographic term used in the book is clearly defined and thoroughly explained. All terms are also highlighted by using; BOLD CAPS so that you can easily find them again to refresh your memory. This Photographic Guide will take the mystery out of cameras, camera equipment, and Photographic Jargon. This book contains 120 charts, illustrations and photos that take the discussion to new levels. You will not only understand the terminology and techniques discussed, but you will have a much better understanding of how your camera works and what is actually happening when you make adjustments. The charts and photos should help you to retain what you learn and put it to good use immediately. Although this book provides a fast-track approach to achieving photographic competence it does not rely on previous knowledge. This book will: Save you a great deal of time and effort. Help you take better pictures and know why they are better Present the details and language of digital photography without intimidation or confusing terminology – all terms are clearly defined and explained. 5Very good book
By Neednewname
I have a BFA in Photography, and have been in a darkroom since I was 8 years old, however, I haven't picked up a camera in many years, and certainly don't claim to be knowledgable on digital photography. I replaced my old manual film Pentax K1000 with a Nikon digital camera and had a very hard time trying to convert my knowledge of film into digital photography. This book was very helpful, very clear and concise. The cut away pictures of the camera are very neat, I don't think I had ever seen those before. This book helped convert my knowledge of film into digital and I feel more comfortable using my digital camera. It gives very clear explanations on metering, focusing, and white balance. I think this book would be great for a beginner or even a person with photography experience but not digital cameras. Great book!

5Helpful and Informative
By justblogs
I want to start this review by giving a sincere thank you to the author, Al Judge. As a former photography student who learned almost nothing over a two year period, I can now say that I fully understand the terminology and possess the technical skill to take better photographs and possibly revisit my dream of becoming a sports photographer. Mastering Digital Cameras reads like a textbook only better. It contains all of the information of the best college level textbooks but is actually easy to understand. The only curriculum this book follows is that of a master photographer like Al Judge. And the best part about it is that you don't need to have any previous photography experience to be able to pick up this book and learn how to choose and use a new camera. If you are a seasoned pro, you can still learn a thing or two from this book, but if you are new to photography you will learn more just by reading this book than anyone can ever teach you in a formal class. For someone like me, the abundant illustrations were very helpful. I learn better by doing and aside from having the author right here with me, the book's illustrations are the next best thing. If you are in doubt about this book, just buy it and give it a read. It is well worth the time if you want to build a solid foundation for your photographic skills.

4Easy Read
By Elias the Newb.
Very useful information for a newbie such as myself. Book was very easy to understand and not overwhelming at all. I wish I would have read this before purchasing my Nixon d3400. I would have either bought a Canon or Nixon 5100 instead, but the bundle I got was too much to pass up (18-55, and 70-300 lenses. ) I'll be reading his book about aperture. Shutter speed, and ISO.
