About the Author
Author Jason McDonald has been active on the Internet since 1994 and has taught SEO, AdWords, and Social Media since 2009 – online, at Stanford University Continuing Studies, at both AcademyX and the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco, at workshops, and in corporate trainings across these United States. His passion is to take complex marketing topics such as social media marketing and make them easy-to-understand for small business owners and marketers. His style is practical, hands-on, and fun. He received his Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.A. from Harvard University in 1985. When he’s not surfing the Internet, Jason can be found being trained by his black Lab, Buddy, across the highways and byways of the San Francisco Bay Area.

5Useful book with some new information

The moment I bought the printed book, I got a digital copy at no additional cost. I order quite a few books every month, and all publishers sell digital editions separately. This one is a nice exception, especially, in the light of the fact, that there are many links to click on.

If you have a book "Google Adwords" by Perry Marshall, you will find that a lot of information is repeated in this book, however, Adwords Workbook 2017 is a newer edition and reflects all the changes that couldn't be described in 2014 edition of Mr. Marshall's book. A good example is expanded text ads with double headlines that came into play in January 2017.

AW 2017 is a good practical book with very useful (and free) worksheets downloadable through the author's website. It is very likely that you will enjoy it.

5Don't Get This If You're My Competition

Just got this today and read the first quarter and skimmed the rest. (It's a workbook so there's going to be tons of work to wade through before I can honestly finish it so look for an updated review then).

Already I can tell this is brilliant...I wondered why a Google tech called me one night to "tweak" my adwords and my responses went down afterwards....now I know.

As the headline says I just hope my competitors don't hear about it. (should I be putting up 1 star reviews maybe. :) )

5Good book -- already paid for itself within 2 hours.

I have struggled with Adwords for years and finally bought this book to try to figure out this complex but useful marketing tool. I am self-employed and rely on word of mouth, organic search and pay per click for my business. I have been wasting a lot of money on Adwords and getting clicks and calls from people who really were not a good match for my services. I had had enough! For $9.50 on Amazon I got what I needed! The book arrived round 11:00 a.m. and I opened it immediately and dug in. By 1:00 p.m. I have discovered that I really needed to change the keyword match settings. That alone more than paid for the book in one day. I also learned how to define global negative keywords to save even more needless click and phone calls (and $$$). The book is a little bit "fluffy" in places and I wish that it did better in explaining exactly how the match types work (needs more examples). But, I feel like I did the right thing in buying this book and I no longer feel like I am getting completely ripped off by Google. I should have gotten this years ago!
