I am grateful that Dr MacDonald makes an easy to read book with practical tips. It does feel like there is filler material that makes the book longer than needed. Having said that I am still appreciative of his hard work.
I thought I would update this review. I originally gave it 3 stars. In order to get to the extra tools, the author has you rate it prior to reading the book. So I was rating this on a reading the first 2 chapters only. I can say that the book is much more dense after that. It has great information and lays out exactly how to do things. I am still only 1/2 way through and will update this review when I finish. Thank you to Dr. McDonald for his tightrope walk between too little data and too much.

Makes you believe you can do SEO
By M. Khatib
In typical fashion, Jason takes a simple, structured approach to an intimidating topic and holds your hand while teaching how to do SEO from the ground up. From the outset, he makes it clear that SEO is not rocket science; that yes, you can beat your competitors at SEO without hiring expensive 'consultants'. It's not hard, but does take work - similar to getting fit.
He explains SEO in seven main steps: 1-Goals, 2-Keywords, 3-On Page SEO, 4-Content Marketing, 5-Off Page SEO, 6-Metrics, 7-Learning.
Each of the steps are explained well in the book using an easy prose, with a dedicated chapter/sub-chapter for each, along with exercises in actually executing the lessons along the way. With each chapter that passes you feel the gaps in your SEO strategy starting to fill in.
In addition to the explanations and exercises, there are numerous references to internet tools to supplement your learning and execution. By the end of the book you will have a structured view of how to do SEO, with an SEO program developed that if you commit to, will provide you tremendous and surprising results.

Knowledge+Effort = Results
This is the second book that I have read by Jason McDonald and I have to say that he continues to impress me with his ability to break down complex ideas into simple do-able steps. SEO is essentially your free gateway to more customers and more sales because most people turn to Google first when they are looking for products, services, and companies. Using his 7 Steps to what he terms SEO Fitness he will be your coach and help you think about and build a successful strategy to get your business, blog, or non-profit to the top of the Google search list.
It’s another 240-page workbook but once again it is readable with lots of confidence building, encouragement, and practical hands-on advice. Plain English is spoken throughout and there is no Techtimidation which is what Jason calls jargon used by techies to intimidate the rest of us. His analogies are helpful, useful and often good for a laugh. They will keep you moving forward from building positive attitude to acquiring technical knowledge and finally getting to the place where you can do the work of implementation.
After you purchase the book don’t forget to register online so that you can easily access the videos, worksheets and clickable links to resources. The TODOs and worksheets will really help you fine tune your thinking so that you can effectively use the power of SEO to your benefit. Jason McDonald has come through with another book that will help all of us.
